In 2015, the domestic mobile phone brand LTPS panel adoption rate reached 37%, the self-sufficiency rate exceeded 20%.

In 2015, the competition among mobile phone brands reached its peak, with a significant rise in the adoption of high-end specifications. According to CINNO Research, the penetration rate of LTPS (including AMOLED display technology) panels in domestic mobile phone brands reached 37.3% that year. This marked a substantial increase in self-sufficiency, with a 20% jump in local production and a 14% rise in market share compared to 2014. The usage of LTPS panels among domestic brands stood at 37.3%, reflecting a growing trend toward advanced display technologies. Further data from the CINNO Research Quarterly Smartphone Panel Value Chain Report revealed that the combined penetration rate of LTPS and Oxide panels in domestic smartphones reached 41.8% in 2015, up by 16% from the previous year. Specifically, LTPS panels without AMOLED technology accounted for 28.3%, while Oxide panels made up 4.4%. These figures represented increases of 5.9% and 1.0%, respectively. This was largely driven by Samsung Display's active release of AMOLED panels, supported by brands like OPPO, vivo, Gionee, and Meizu. If we look at the top ten Chinese brands in 2016, their AMOLED panel usage is expected to grow by 9%. According to the report, OPPO led the way with an AMOLED panel usage of 38% in 2015, the highest among domestic brands. Their total LTPS usage was 57%, up from 52% in 2014. This indicated that two-thirds of their LTPS products were replaced by Samsung’s AMOLED panels. OPPO’s sales growth in 2015 exceeded 55%. Another key player, vivo, which also experienced over 55% sales growth, used AMOLED panels at a rate of 24%. Meanwhile, Meizu, which saw a sales surge of 350%, achieved an AMOLED usage of 16%. On the other hand, Huawei’s first AMOLED phone, the MateS, struggled due to its higher price, resulting in a market share of less than 2%. The localization rate of LTPS panels among domestic mobile phone brands surpassed 20% in 2015. Despite Japanese suppliers still holding a 50% market share, this figure declined by 20% compared to 2014. Sharp, for instance, saw its market share drop by 17%. JDI’s main domestic partners shifted from OPPO and Huawei in 2014 to Huawei and Xiaomi, which together accounted for about 83% of JDI’s domestic supply. Sharp’s primary clients remained Xiaomi and Meizu, making up 89% of its domestic supply. Samsung emerged as the strongest AMOLED supplier, jumping from near-zero market share in 2014 to becoming the second-largest screen supplier, with a 22% share. It provided the most support to OPPO, contributing 75% of the AMOLED supply to the top ten brands. With the full-scale operation of Tianma Xiamen’s 5.5-generation LTPS line, Tianma became China’s largest high-end mobile display supplier, increasing its market share in the top ten smartphone brands to 12% in 2015. Shenzhen Chao and BOE also significantly boosted their LTPS panel supplies, leading to more than 20% of top Chinese brands using locally produced LTPS panels, with a 15% year-on-year increase in market share. These developments are expected to further accelerate the localization of high-end mobile phone panels. The era of "Made in China" in display technology has arrived—both in quality and quantity.
