Sharp Point Tester Model: JX-9704

This sharp point tester is designed to detect sharp points on toys that can be touched by children. It helps ensure compliance with safety standards and prevents potential hazards caused by sharp edges or protrusions.

Accessories Included:

  • Cusp tester
  • Weight weight
  • Bulb 2
  • Battery pair

Standards Compliance:

  • ASTM F963 4.8
  • EN71-1998 8.12
  • GB6675-2003 A.5.9
  • 16 CFR 1500.48

Test Procedure for Sharp Cusp Tester:

  1. Adjust the cusp tester program:
    • Rotate the loose ring clockwise.
    • Turn the test cap clockwise until the red indicator light turns on.
    • Slowly turn the test cap counterclockwise until the indicator light just goes out.
    • Rotate the test cap forward and backward to find the exact position where the indicator light is lit.
    • Align the scale line marked on the lock ring with one of the scale lines on the test cap.
    • Turn the test cap 5 grids counterclockwise (each grid represents the distance between two short lines on the cap).
    • Tighten the locking ring until it is close to the tail cap.
  2. Perform the cusp test:
    • Place the tip into the measurement slot of the cusp tester.
    • Hold the test object and apply a force of 4.5 N (equivalent to 1 lb) to check if the indicator light turns on.
    • If the tester is vertical and no external force is applied, the force from the object being tested should still be 4.5 N (1 lb).
  3. Judgment Criteria:
    • If the indicator light turns on, the object is considered non-conforming and has a sharp point.

How to Use and Understand the Sharp Cusp Tester:

  • Place the sharp cusp tester on the accessible cusp of the toy and check whether the sharp point can be inserted to the specified depth.
  • Apply an external force of 1 lb to the cusp so that the indicator light turns on, confirming it as a sharp cusp.
  • Wooden thorns in wooden toys are particularly dangerous and must not be present in any toy.
  • Before each inspection, adjust the sensor head to ensure accurate and sensitive detection.
  • When adjusting the tester, loosen the lock ring first, then rotate the lock ring to expose the calibration reference scale. Rotate the measuring cover clockwise until the indicator light flashes, then turn the measuring cap counterclockwise to align the micrometer mark with the calibration scale. Finally, tighten the lock ring to secure the measuring cover.

Age Limit for Sharp Cusp Testing:

Age Range Requirements
Under 36 months Toy must not have any sharp cusp.
37 months – 96 months Functional sharp points may exist, but must have warning instructions. Non-functional sharp points are not allowed.

Applicable Toy Types:

  • Wooden toys
  • Toys suitable for children aged 96 months and below

This tool is essential for quality control in toy manufacturing and ensures child safety by identifying potentially harmful sharp points. Always follow the testing procedures carefully and maintain the equipment regularly for accurate results.
