When installing a leakage circuit breaker, it is essential to connect the upper and lower lines correctly. Pay close attention to the phase line (commonly known as the live wire) and the neutral line. Do not connect any marked terminals on the leakage switch. If there are no markings, the left side should be connected to the phase line. It's crucial to remember that the neutral wire used by electrical devices must not come from the top of the leakage switch. Some of it should be taken from the bottom. Otherwise, the leakage switch will not close properly. In other words, if the phase line passes through the leakage switch, the neutral line must also pass through it. For power-operated leakage switches, pressing the test button lightly should cause the switch to trip immediately. It’s recommended to press the test button once a month to ensure the leakage protection function is working correctly. However, avoid pressing the test button too frequently while the system is powered on, as this can reduce the lifespan of the switch.

To check if the leakage switch is functioning properly, you can use the test button. The basic principle of a leakage protector is to compare the alternating current flowing through the live wire and the neutral wire. If they are not equal, the device will trip. There are safe testing methods available, especially if your home has a ground wire. One method involves using a three-pin socket: connect a resistor and a capacitor in series, then attach the other end to the ground pin. This setup creates a path for current to flow through the ground, causing an imbalance between the incoming and returning currents, which triggers the leakage switch to trip. You can use a capacitor from a fan and choose a 1-watt resistor of 10 ohms or higher. After connecting, wrap the junction of the resistor and capacitor with insulating tape to ensure safety.
