Vishay Releases Industry's First High Temperature Resistant Thick Film Chip Resistor

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has recently introduced a groundbreaking high-temperature surface-mount wraparound thick-film resistor called the CHPHT. This innovative component is designed for extreme environments and can operate between -55°C and +230°C, with storage temperatures ranging from -55°C to +245°C. It marks a significant advancement in the industry, offering reliable performance in some of the most challenging conditions. The CHPHT resistors are especially well-suited for multi-chip modules (MCM) used in drilling equipment, which are essential for extracting oil from deeper underground. These components are available in various form factors, including 0603, 0805, 1206, and 2010 (custom sizes can be requested). They offer resistance values ranging from 0.1Ω to 100MΩ, with tolerances of 1%, 2%, or 5%. At a temperature of +230°C, they can dissipate power ranging from 12.5mW to 100mW, making them ideal for high-performance applications. The resistors feature gold terminations that are compatible with high-melting-point (HMP) soldering processes up to +245°C, while tin/silver terminations can withstand temperatures up to +200°C. Additionally, the CHPHT series complies with the RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC and meets the halogen-free standards outlined in IEC 61249-2-21, ensuring environmental compliance and long-term reliability. This new product line from Vishay represents a major step forward in the development of high-temperature electronic components, providing engineers with greater flexibility and performance in demanding industrial applications.
