Vishay Releases Industry's First High Temperature Resistant Thick Film Chip Resistor

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has recently introduced a groundbreaking high-temperature surface-mount thick-film resistor called the CHPHT. This innovative component is designed to operate reliably in extreme environments, with an operational temperature range of -55°C to +230°C and storage temperatures from -55°C to +245°C—making it the first device in the industry to achieve such performance. The CHPHT resistors are especially well-suited for multi-chip modules (MCM) used in drilling equipment, where they help extract oil from deeper underground. These resistors come in various standard sizes, including 0603, 0805, 1206, and 2010, with other dimensions available upon request. Their resistance values range from 0.1Ω to 100MΩ, with tolerances of 1%, 2%, or 5%. At +230°C, the power dissipation ranges from 12.5mW to 100mW, ensuring stable performance even under harsh conditions. In terms of termination options, Vishay’s CHPHT resistors feature gold terminations compatible with high-melting-point (HMP) soldering processes up to +245°C, while tin/silver terminations can be used up to +200°C. The product also meets the RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC and complies with halogen-free standards outlined in IEC 61249-2-21, making it environmentally friendly and suitable for modern electronics manufacturing. Whether you're working on deep-drilling systems, aerospace applications, or any other high-temperature environment, the CHPHT resistor offers a reliable and durable solution that pushes the boundaries of traditional resistor technology. With its wide range of configurations and exceptional thermal performance, this new resistor is set to become a key component in next-generation industrial and electronic systems.
