Apple Inc.'s smart speaker, the HomePod, launched just under two weeks ago, but according to research firm Loup Ventures, it has already captured 3% of the market. This rapid growth highlights the product's early success in a competitive landscape.
On the 21st, Loup Ventures analyst Gene Munster released a survey report based on responses from 520 U.S. consumers. The findings revealed that 31% of respondents own a smart speaker. Among these, Amazon’s Echo leads with 55% market share, followed by Google Home at 23%, and Microsoft’s Cortana at 15%. The HomePod holds 3%, while “other brands†account for 4%.
When it comes to user satisfaction, 89% of smart speaker owners reported being either satisfied (59%) or very satisfied (30%). According to Munster, this high level of satisfaction isn’t surprising, as consumer expectations for smart speakers are relatively low, and the tasks they perform are generally simple.

Interestingly, despite its low overall performance score of 57%—which didn't meet the passing criteria—Cortana still manages to handle basic tasks like playing Spotify playlists, checking the weather, and answering simple questions.
The survey also highlighted that nearly 40% of users use their smart speakers primarily for listening to music, which is the most common function. Over 30% use them for weather updates, while 10% use them for sports, news, communication, and smart home control.
Moreover, the data shows a strong demand for voice-controlled devices. Smart speakers have become more popular than smartphones in certain aspects, and many users say they would find it hard to go back to a life without one. This indicates a growing reliance on voice-activated technology in everyday life.
