Apple Inc.'s smart speaker, the HomePod, launched just under two weeks ago, but according to research firm Loup Ventures, it has already captured 3% of the market. This is a promising start for Apple in the competitive smart speaker space.
On the 21st, Loup Ventures analyst Gene Munster released a survey report based on responses from 520 U.S. consumers. The findings revealed that 31% of respondents own a smart speaker. Among them, Amazon's Echo leads with 55% market share, followed by Google Home at 23%, and Microsoft’s Cortana at 15%. The HomePod holds 3%, while “other brands†account for 4%.
In terms of user satisfaction, 89% of smart speaker owners reported being satisfied (59%) or very satisfied (30%). According to Munster, this high level of satisfaction makes sense because consumer expectations for these devices are relatively low, and the tasks they perform are generally simple.

Interestingly, despite its lower overall performance score of 57%—which didn’t meet the passing threshold—Cortana still manages to handle basic functions like playing music from Spotify, checking the weather, and answering simple questions.
The survey also highlighted that nearly 40% of users listen to music through their smart speakers, making it the most popular function. Over 30% use them to check weather forecasts, while 10% use them for sports updates, news, communication, and smart home control.
Moreover, the data shows a strong demand for voice-activated technology. Smart speakers have become so integrated into daily life that many users say they wouldn't want to go back to a world without them. With rising popularity and increasing adoption, the smart speaker market continues to evolve rapidly, setting the stage for more innovation in the near future.
