UHV is the development trend of China's future power grid. Industry experts predict that by 2020, the transmission capacity of UHV and cross-regional grids in China will be 210 million kW, of which 800 kV DC grid will be about 56 million kW, and about 150 million kW will be composed of AC grids. According to relevant sources, in the next five years, the State Grid will invest 620 billion yuan to build an UHV power grid. Liu Zhenya, chairman of the State Grid Corporation of China and party secretary, publicly stated before: "Accelerating the development of UHV is an inevitable choice for solving China's energy problems. The UHV will not only promote the optimal allocation of energy resources in the country, promote the accelerated development of clean energy, and promote the upgrading of equipment manufacturing industry. It will also provide strategic choices for the construction of large intercontinental transmission corridors.” Because of the vast size and complex terrain of China, high-voltage transmission lines are bound to go through various cross-over areas, and the demand for special performance large-span conductors and ground wires is inevitable, such as High-strength galvanized steel wire for reinforced steel cores for use in large span engineering wires.

In the past, many of the U.S. high-voltage and large-span projects used in China were imported products, and one of the main reasons for this was the inability to provide such high-strength galvanized steel wire at home. After the joint efforts of China's cable and wire industry in recent years, it has successfully solved the problems of materials and technology for the production of wire rods for large-span wire. For example, in this year's Changjiang-Changsha Great-Leap-Transfer Project, ultra-high-strength galvanized steel strands for cables used by Wuhan Iron and Steel Group were used, and Jiangsu Zhongtian Technology Group's aluminum-clad steel wire plant went to Zhejiang Jinhua's UHV DC transmission line project. 1100 tons of green aluminum-clad steel strands were delivered on large-span stretches.

State Grid’s increase in smart grid construction will guarantee future cable and cable demand. At the State Council Executive Meeting held in July this year, “Strengthening the construction of urban distribution networks and promoting the intelligentization of the power grid” was identified as one of the six key tasks for urban infrastructure construction. By 2020, China will basically build a strong smart grid, form a "Sanhua" UHV synchronous grid as the receiver, and use the Northeast UHV grid and the Northwest 750kv grid as the delivery end, linking major coal and electricity bases and large hydropower bases. The strong grid structure of the large nuclear power base, large-scale renewable energy base, and ultra-high voltage and cross-regional grid transmission capacity exceed 400 million kilowatts.

In order to promote the implementation of smart electricity and other related applications, the power system has carried out a large number of smart grid pilot projects in the past two years. At the user's home access end, it has begun to promote the power of fiber-to-the-home technology. While providing wire access, it can also be based on User needs to achieve simultaneous fiber access. The implementation of power optical fiber access has provided new development opportunities for domestic cable manufacturers. Domestic cable companies including China Sky Technologies have achieved mass production of low-voltage composite cables. The implementation of the smart grid strategy will significantly boost the domestic cable market demand. The national smart grid construction is a large-scale backbone network using the UHV synchronous grid as the sending and receiving end, and the demand for high-voltage, ultra-high-pressure, ultra-high voltage and other long-distance transmission lines will surely increase. According to the scale of the strategic deployment of the State Grid, the smart grid will continue to promote the development of the entire power market in the next few years, which effectively protects the power cable market demand in the coming years. With the full deployment of smart grid construction, relying on the good business cooperation relationship with the State Grid, cable manufacturers will become the main beneficiaries of smart grid construction in China.
