2.3GHz, 16-QAM MAX2363 transmitter IC performance

Abstract: The MAX2363 EV kit is tuned to the 2.3GHz WCS band. In the 16-QAM modulation mode, we measured the following performance: the relationship between the output power and VGC, ACPR, EVM, and the maximum output power under the specified bias setting.

The MAX2363 is designed for 1.95GHz wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) applications. The chip can provide excellent performance in the WCDMA band. The 16-QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) modulation method in the 2.3GHz WCS band has gradually become the focus of attention. As long as the output port matching is slightly modified, the MAX2363 can achieve very good performance in the 2.3GHz band and meet WCS requirements.

The MAX2361 / 63 has wideband internal matching for the output port, requiring only a pull-up inductor and a DC blocking capacitor. At 2.3GHz, the inductance of the pull-up inductor is changed from 11nH to 15nH to optimize the output power.

In these measurements, the intermediate frequency (IF) uses 220.38MHz because it is very common in PCS NCDMA (narrowband CDMA) applications. {Already have finished filters, and samples can be obtained from several suppliers. } The 220.38MHz NCDMA IF filter is placed between the modulator output and the up-conversion mixer input to filter out-of-band noise. A 16-QAM baseband I / Q signal with a code rate of 500ksps is injected into the MAX2363. The channel spacing is 625kHz.

The MAX2363 data measured in the 2.3GHz band is shown below.

Pout and VGC

Test Conditions:

Vcc = 3.0V
Rbias = 10k
IF = 220.38
LO = 2094.62MHz
RF = 2315MHz
IF DAC = 110

The corresponding data of the measured Pout and VGC is shown in Table 1.

Typical ACPR graphics

In the adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR) measurement, the frequency offsets corresponding to ACPR1 and ACPR2 are 625 kHz and 1.3 MHz, respectively, and the measurement bandwidth is 30 kHz. The typical ACPR graph output by MAX2363 at 2.31535GHz is shown in Figure 1.
