Smart TV welcomes "security exam" cross-border cooperation between manufacturers

With IT giants such as Apple, Google, and Lenovo, as well as Samsung, Haier, Skyworth, and Konka, TV manufacturers have all made efforts in the smart TV market, 2012 has been considered by the industry as the first year of smart TVs. Unlike traditional TVs that are not networked and only receive fixed channels, Smart TVs use an operating system and can install a variety of application software. As smart TVs enter the blowout period, the security of smart TVs also faces enormous challenges.

It is expected to exceed 130 million units in 2015

Smart TV is regarded as the next blue ocean and attracted many IT and home appliance giants. Lenovo’s world’s first smart TV using the Android 4.0 operating system will be officially launched in China at the end of April this year; Apple’s smart TV iTV will be unveiled during the year; Google’s Goole TV business with Samsung will also burst out. Market research firm NPD DisplaySearch predicts that smart TV shipments are expected to exceed 130 million units by 2015, accounting for about half of the flat-panel TVs on the market.

With the opening of the smart TV market, the security of smart TVs has also come in handy. Since non-Apple manufacturers generally use Google's Android system (and a small number of companies may choose Microsoft's operating system), Android system brings rich applications to consumers, and its exposed security risks are also increasingly prominent.

The day before yesterday, Jinshan Networks and Konka Group launched the world's first security smart cloud TV, and simultaneously launched the first cloud security software for smart TVs - Jinshan TV Guardian, to address the security issues of smart TVs.

Cross-border cooperation between manufacturers to deal with the trend

According to the 2011 Android Platform Security Report released by Jinshan Network earlier this year, the number of new viruses on the Android platform reached 23,681 throughout the year, and 10.37 million people were victims. "With the rise of smart TV, the virus industry chain will inevitably be eyeing this huge market." Jinshan network CEO Fu Sheng told reporters.

With the gradual popularization of smart TVs, online applications such as online shopping, email, instant messaging, and television banking will all be implemented on smart TVs. Konka launched the world's first security smart cloud TV, in order to improve the safety of smart TVs, to eliminate consumer worries, Jinshan network and Konka joined forces to launch Jinshan TV guards, for smart TV security lock.

Reporters also learned from home appliance giants such as Haier and TCL that these companies also attach great importance to the security of smart TVs and have cooperated with security companies to configure cross-border security systems to protect users' information security. "The cross-border cooperation among manufacturers is a trend." Wang Haijun, vice president of Guangzhou Ruifu Information Technology Co., Ltd., also stated that information on smart cloud TVs is stored in the background, which makes information security particularly important. Manufacturers must take precautions.
