From a product development perspective, this move aligns with the growing global interest in AI technology. On the organizational side, reinforcing Sun Yingquan’s position is also seen as a strategic effort to strengthen Samsung’s leadership in key markets. Sun Yingquan joined Samsung in 2012 and played a crucial role in last year’s acquisition of Harman International for $8 billion, which was a major step in expanding the company's presence in the automotive and smart tech sectors.
The newly established AI R&D center will be part of the joint research initiative between mobile services and consumer electronics divisions. Sun Yingquan, who oversees the Samsung Strategy and Innovation Center, will directly manage the new AI research team, ensuring that it integrates seamlessly with the company’s broader innovation goals.
From a market standpoint, after facing challenges in the previous year, Samsung made a strong comeback with the S8 and Note 8 series. Recently, the company officially launched Bixby, its AI assistant, in the region. With the creation of this new AI research center, it's expected that future Samsung products will incorporate even more advanced AI features, enhancing user experience and maintaining the company’s competitive edge in the tech industry.
