Mobike aims to expand into 200 cities around the world at the end of the year

According to the latest report from the British newspaper "Daily Mail" on July 18, Mobike, a rapidly expanding shared cycling startup, has already reached 100 million users in China. The company is now strategizing to enter the American and European markets, aiming to deploy shared bicycles in 200 cities worldwide by the end of the year. They hope their distinctive "no-pile" model will revolutionize the shared bicycle industry. This week, at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech Conference held in Aspen, Colorado, Mobike showcased some brightly colored bicycles. While many major U.S. cities already have shared bike projects, Wang Xiaofeng, co-founder and CEO of Mobike, expressed his hope that local authorities would embrace the innovative concept of Mobike. "Traditional docked bikes are like desktop computers, whereas we are more akin to a smartphone," Wang Xiaofeng remarked at the conference. When Mobike launched its bikes in April 2016, the company made the bold decision to eliminate docking stations and fixed drop-off points, making it far more convenient for users to access the bikes. With no stations or designated stops, users can ride freely without limitations. Additionally, the user can unlock the bike via a smartphone app. Mobike also integrates a GPS system, enabling real-time tracking and usage. In just 15 months, the company has extended its operations to over 150 cities and deployed six million bicycles. Wang Xiaofeng stated that over 20 million people utilize Mobike daily, making bicycles even more popular than taxis in certain Chinese cities. Last month, Mobike announced that it had secured a new round of funding totaling $600 million (approximately 4.068 billion yuan), led by Chinese tech giant Tencent. This marks the largest financing round in Mobike's history, with the company now valued at over $1 billion (approximately 6.764 billion yuan). Reports indicate that Mobike was recently launched in two British cities—Manchester—and also in Singapore and Japan. Wang Xiaofeng told reporters, "We aim to become a global enterprise." Wang Xiaofeng mentioned that Mobike bikes can coexist with existing cycling programs, encouraging more people to take up cycling. In the U.S., the company is conducting market research and negotiating with local governments. In China, Mobike faces competition from other shared bike companies such as ofo. As the company continues to expand globally, Mobike is poised to redefine urban mobility, offering a seamless and accessible solution for commuters everywhere.
