Global Network Technology Report – According to Yonhap News Agency from South Korea, on September 26th, Hyundai Motor Group partnered with China Unicom to establish a major data center in Guizhou. This marks the first overseas big data facility for Hyundai, aimed at strengthening its presence in the Chinese market and offering localized smart connected car services to consumers.
In an exclusive interview, a senior executive from Hyundai emphasized the importance of data in today’s automotive landscape: “The industry is undergoing a major transformation, and it's crucial for automakers to collect and process relevant data effectively.â€
Since 2016, Hyundai has been actively exploring smart car development by collaborating with global tech firms. With the new China Big Data Center now operational, the company has deepened its partnership with China Unicom, focusing on creating a predictive analytics platform capable of handling diverse local data sets.
Additionally, Hyundai’s engineering teams are working closely with Cisco Systems to develop a highly intelligent and safe autonomous vehicle. The company has also built strong ties with Baidu, aiming to integrate Baidu’s MapAuto navigation system and DuerOS voice recognition technology into its future car models.
Hyundai already had a solid foundation in cloud-based automotive services in South Korea, with proven expertise in intelligent vehicle operations. Leveraging this experience, the new data center in China is expected to support the creation of a tailored automotive cloud platform specifically for the Chinese market.
As the automotive industry continues to evolve, Hyundai’s strategic investments in data infrastructure and partnerships with leading Chinese tech companies signal a clear commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions in one of the world’s most competitive markets.
