The current of each LED string in the parallel solution is individually controlled, so that if one LED string is open, the remaining LED strings will still function properly. In addition, if one LED is shorted, the constant current circuit ensures that all other LEDs in the parallel and serial sub-solutions work properly.

This new solution significantly reduces component count compared to traditional solutions, reducing the parallel layout by more than 20 components and the serial layout by 86 components. This solution is extremely reliable with fewer component counts, powerful protection features and higher fault tolerance for LED faults. In developing this total solution, Fairchild GPRC engineers selected a range of components from the company's extensive product portfolio, such as the active power factor correction (PFC) controller FAN7930 to perform boost PFC applications under CrCM. And with the highly integrated Fairchild Power Switch (FPS) product, the FSFR2100 provides all the features needed to build a reliable and robust resonant half-bridge converter.
