Last month, Alibaba’s mobile office application revealed the backbone of corporate networks for the next three years and how it can support efficient office work.
Nails introduced a product tailored for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) during its autumn strategy conference — the Nail C1 Smart Wireless Router. Positioned as a smart communication center, it connects smart front desk M2, printers, copiers, access control systems, air conditioning, and lighting to create an intelligent office environment.
What kind of experience does this company offer to enterprise users, given the design intention and the name “Smart Communications Center†on the C1 router?
Minimalist Design Makes Enterprise Routers Simple
In most people's minds, enterprise routers are usually bulky, with many antennas and numerous signal indicators. However, the router launched by Nails is different.
It looks more like a "smart communication center" than a traditional router. The rounded rectangular design features a minimalist aesthetic, with no visible antennas or multiple signal indicators. On the back, there are one 1G WAN port (supporting PoE 802.3at), three 1G LAN ports, one USB 2.0 port, a reset button, and a DC power port.
According to Nails, "efficiency" is the core of the C1 router’s design. The front side has a WRGB color aperture that replaces complex signal indicators, displaying the router’s status through different colors. For example, a blue flash means it is operating correctly, a steady white light indicates normal operation, a red light shows a network disconnection, and green means it is in wireless networking mode.
Additionally, the buzzer is integrated into the WRGB aperture, providing auditory feedback for certain functions. For instance, when resetting the router, the C1 emits a "click" sound.
The C1 is designed with flexibility in mind for enterprise use. With included tie ropes, expansion screws, and wall-mounting accessories, it can be placed flat, mounted on the wall, ceiling, or suspended from the top of office ceilings — just like traditional routers.
This provides enterprises with a simple and flexible network setup solution.
Even Administrative Staff Can Easily Configure the Network
For SMEs, setting up a company network often requires professional assistance. It's not only technically challenging but also time-consuming. Traditional networking can take 2 to 4 hours, which may disrupt business operations.
However, Nails aims to simplify and streamline the process. The C1 router reduces the tedious network configuration to just four steps, taking only five minutes. In practice, even those without technical knowledge can easily set up their network.
Once the power cord and internet connection are plugged in, the C1 starts working. Unlike traditional routers that require logging into the backend or using an app for configuration, simply connecting your phone to the default unencrypted SSID of the C1, opening the Nails app, binding the team, and setting the Wi-Fi SSID is enough to initially configure the company’s wireless network.
When employees need to connect to Wi-Fi, they open the Nails app (after enabling mobile data), and the network is automatically configured. For devices that cannot install the Nails app, such as laptops or smart TVs, a unique internet password can be used to connect.
Moreover, the C1 simplifies expansion. If the office space is large and multiple routers are needed, the C1 can be connected via wired network or implemented using two C1s separated by 10 meters for wireless networking — all done simply and efficiently.
Beyond easy setup, what else can the C1 do?
Managing the Network Is Easy for Non-Experts
For enterprise networks, configuring and managing the network can be complex. To ensure reasonable allocation of network resources, the C1 introduces an "Internet Access" feature, tailored for enterprise needs.
Different departments within a company may have varying network requirements. For example, the Sales and Operations departments might need higher bandwidth, while Finance and Administration may not. The C1 allows network managers to allocate speeds accordingly, increasing speed for high-demand departments and limiting others to protect overall network performance.
With the Nails app, administrators can set network priorities for different departments. They can also monitor the router's status, including CPU and memory usage, channel utilization, upload/download speeds, and online devices. This helps track how network resources are being used by employees.
Smart Communication Center Is the Main Selling Point of C1
Since the launch of the Nails app, from version 1.0 focused on communication to version 2.0 focused on collaboration, and now version 3.5, the app has been dedicated to sharing management experiences of successful companies. Entering the 4.0 era, the company aims to accelerate the integration of software and hardware, creating a smart office environment.
From the promotional video on the Nails official website, we get a glimpse of the future smart office scene. In this vision, the C1 will play a central role in the company’s network connectivity, enhancing the office experience through the combination of Nails software, smart front desk (M2), and other hardware products like the smart wireless projection screen.
For example, after accessing the smart desk M2, visitor information is pushed to the corresponding staff member via the C1, improving company image and office efficiency. Employees can also implement one-click projection using the Nails app.
Additionally, after work, employees can remotely control air conditioners and lights via the Nails app.
As a wireless router and AP, how does the C1 perform?
The biggest advantage for enterprises is that the C1 supports MU-MIMO technology and optimizes 2.4 GHz WiFi interference.
MU-MIMO improves bandwidth utilization in 802.11ac networks, making it ideal for enterprise use. In simple terms, it’s a smart antenna technology that uses multi-user, multiple-input, and multiple-output to improve communication speed between the router and connected devices.
Interference on the 2.4 GHz frequency is a common issue for enterprise networks. Using the Netspot app on a MacBook, we tested the C1’s anti-interference capabilities in a 50-square-meter area surrounded by reinforced concrete walls.
The larger dBm values indicate stronger surrounding signals, which can cause interference. Despite this, the overall SNR detected by Netspot was good, showing that the C1 has some effectiveness in reducing interference.
Next, we used the Speedtest app on a phone to test the network conditions in dark red areas. Although the signal was slightly weaker due to distance and remote location, the network remained stable with minimal fluctuations, indicating that the interference reduction feature works effectively.
Overall, the C1 offers a comprehensive range of features, from design to intelligence, making it a strong contender for enterprise use.
At a price of 1299 yuan, it’s highly competitive. According to the company, for a 100-person company, using the C1 can save over 50,000 yuan annually in equipment costs.
