MasterCard, ODG and Qualcomm launch AR shopping application prototype

At the recent Money2020 (Payment and Finance Industry Conference) in Las Vegas, MasterCard, ODG and Qualcomm have partnered to bring an AR shopping app that integrates AR glasses, iris authentication and seamless mobile payments. It aims to provide consumers with a complete shopping experience.

The AR shopping application has three key components:

MasterCard’s Masterpass provides digital payment services, as well as mobile identity checking services, using biometrics (fingerprint, facial and voice recognition) to pay for authorization.

2. OGD's R-9 smart glasses provide AR experience through an ultra-wide field of view and enhanced iris tracking camera. It is based on the Xiaolong XR SDK running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform, and features iris authentication technology for vitality detection.

3. When you put a digital product into your shopping cart and you are ready to pay with Masterpass, the iris authentication software verifies that you really want to buy these products. After the purchase is completed, the goods will be delivered directly to your home.

According to a study by Salsify, 77% of shoppers have used mobile devices to study availability and pricing while shopping in the store. It can be seen that consumers have long used the idea of technology to enhance their shopping experience. Now, instead of using a smartphone, the AR shopping experience uses AR smart glasses to give consumers an immersive experience and a photo-like, high-resolution, realistic image at home.

The three parties stated that at present, this is just a conceptual demonstration, but with the rise of new retail, they can integrate their technology into retail stores by 2018, and it will take until 2020 to wait until the technology matures and goes public.
