Google, the Internet search engine giant, has been involved in the health industry in recent years in the fields of computers and smart phones. According to the British National Broadcasting Corporation, Google is currently developing smart contact lenses with LED lights. It is claimed to measure the glucose concentration in tears.
Google has implanted a wireless chip and a small glucose detector in the lens. The lens also incorporates a thin LED light. Once the glucose concentration is higher than a certain threshold, the LED will flash.
However, Google also said that the technology is still in the research and development stage, and there is still a long way to go before it is available to the public. If this new technology is successfully developed, it will change the way diabetes currently measures blood sugar, providing another, easier way to measure blood sugar.
According to the International Diabetes Federation, one in 10 people worldwide suffers from diabetes in 2035. At present, the way to detect blood sugar still depends on the blood glucose machine to pour the blood on the test strip; while Google's technology can read the blood glucose data every second.
As the population ages, the future of such high-tech electronic products will only increase.
