Demand for Wire and Cable Responds to Boost Production of Copper Rods

Since 2010, the output of wire and cable in all regions of the world has increased compared to the same period of last year. At the same time, the production of copper rods for raw materials has increased. According to relevant data, global copper rod production in the first three quarters of 2010 increased 6.5% year-on-year. Among them, the demand is mainly in the coiled wire industry, and the demand for coiled wires has increased correspondingly due to the substantial increase in output of the electronics industry, the automotive industry, and the electric vehicle industry. In spite of this, the production of coiled magnets is still lower than the historic high set in the first three quarters of 2007. The magnetic coil industry is seen as an important indicator of the development of the wire and cable industry.

In South America and North America, the demand for copper rods has steadily increased. The demand for copper rods in Asia is still the main area for global copper rod consumption. Even the economic crisis has not affected the consumption of copper rods in Asia. According to relevant data, in the 1st to 3rd quarters of 2007, the consumption of Asian copper rods accounted for 52% of the world's total. In the same period of 2010, its share increased to 62%. In Asia, China and India are the major consumer markets.
