Taiwan Central University publishes LED color coding technology

The Central University said that the latest LED color-encapsulation technology developed by its research team has successfully established a data model with dual-phosphor technology, which accurately predicts the color temperature performance produced by the phosphor formula, and not only accurately controls the color temperature performance. White LED lamps with color rendering higher than 90 in different color temperature sections are almost the same as natural light, which can greatly improve the production yield and lead the world in technology.

At present, Australia, the United Kingdom, the European Union, the United States, Japan and other countries have announced that it will ban the use or production of incandescent lamps from 2012. Therefore, LEDs have low energy, high luminous efficiency, no heat radiation, no mercury, no damage, long life, etc. The advantages will become the focus of the development of governments and major manufacturers.

Sun Qingcheng, director of the Department of Optoelectronic Science and Engineering at the Central University, said that the research team designed a geometry with a very small color-shifted phosphor powder. When the color temperature is lower than 3500K (absolute temperature), the spatial color deviation is within plus or minus 50K; At 4,000K, the spatial color is within plus or minus 150K.

Sun Qingcheng said that the technology has already completed the technical transfer with NT$25 million. After mass production, it will be expected to be applied to various types of LED lamps to replace traditional lighting with mercury and other pollutants. The 20% power lighting industry will set off another green revolution.

Sun Qingcheng also pointed out that Taiwan's optoelectronic industry has the opportunity to master the future of the world's lighting industry, but because patents are in the hands of international manufacturers, Taiwanese manufacturers have no patents, which limits the scale of industry development.
