Toshiba discontinues production of ordinary incandescent lamps to help reduce carbon

Toshiba Corporation of Japan announced on the 17th that Toshiba Lighting Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the group, will stop producing ordinary incandescent bulbs from now on.

Toshiba issued a press release on the 17th that Toshiba’s history of producing incandescent bulbs has been going on for 120 years, and the suspension of such products will help cut about 430,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Toshiba Lighting Technology Co., Ltd. started its production of incandescent light bulbs in 1890. In 1973, the company's annual development reached an annual output of 78 million incandescent bulbs. In recent years, due to the increasing concern about global warming, Japanese consumers are increasingly demanding energy-saving lamps, and Toshiba Lighting Technologies has gradually replaced traditional incandescent lamps with LED lamps.

The communique said that starting from the 17th, Toshiba Lighting Technology Co., Ltd. will stop the production of 103 kinds of ordinary incandescent bulbs and continue to produce only a small number of incandescent lamps with special purposes.
