LG will push 77-inch curved screen OLED TV at CES

December 21, LG Display and LG Electronics will introduce flexible OLED products at the new CES.

According to industry sources, “Bendability is new technology. If LG Display introduces 100-inch large flexible OLED TVs, we would not be surprised.” Sources also added that LG may launch a 77-inch flexible OLED TV. It is the largest size TV that the company can currently produce.

LG Display already produces 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch OLED displays, which are used on LG Electronics' TVs. An unnamed LG executive said: "We have mastered the key technologies of flexible OLED screens, but the market demand still fails to meet expectations. Therefore, we are still considering whether mass production of flexible OLED panels should be done."

As for how to promote OLED TV at CES, LG Electronics declined to disclose details. In June last year, LG Display has introduced an 18-inch flexible OLED TV with a panel that is as thin as paper. The 18-inch screen can be curled up to a 3 cm radius, and the products that LG Display introduced at CES cannot be completely curled.

Recently, the company also announced that it will develop a 60-inch Ultra HD (UHD) transparent and flexible OLED panel before 2017. LG Display is a leader in the large-scale OLED TV market. Competitor Samsung Electronics mainly develops small OLED panels for smart devices.
