Global IT spending is expected to increase by 7.1% this year

U.S. market research firm Gartner today released a report, which raised the forecast for global IT spending growth in 2011 to 7.1% from the previous 5.6% and is expected to reach US$3.672 trillion.

“While the concerns about the disruption of key parts supply chain have had widespread impact initially, we have not seen the global IT spending budget more affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. This is somewhat surprising.” Richard Gartner Vice President of Research · Gordon (Richard Gordon) said, “As of the whole year of 2011, we expect Japan’s IT spending to decrease in local currencies, but it will increase in the second half of the year, and this trend will continue into 2012. ”

Gartner expects that global IT service spending this year will reach 846 billion US dollars, an increase of 6.6%. Computers and hardware accounted for the largest increase in expenses, reaching 11.7%, and the total amount is expected to be 419 billion US dollars. In addition, corporate software spending increased by 9.5% to $268 billion, and communications spending increased by 6.9% to $2.14 trillion.

Public cloud computing services are currently one of the hottest IT topics, and Gartner’s latest forecast also finds that spending growth in this area will quadruple the overall increase in IT spending. Global public cloud service spending is expected to grow from $74.0 billion in 2010 to $89 billion this year, and it is expected to reach $177 billion by 2015.

But Gartner analysts said that public cloud service spending accounted for only 2% of global IT spending in 2010, and the proportion in 2015 is still less than 5%.

“But the rise and popularity of cloud computing is still an important trend. In some markets, it has become an important factor.” Gordon said, “For example, the software-as-a-service (SaaS) field with a market size of US$10 billion already accounts for With 10% of enterprise software spending, it will approach 15% by 2015 and spend more than $20 billion annually."
