According to the BOE engineers at the scene, the backlight system of this display is different from the so-called "white LED" backlight promoted by many manufacturers. It integrates hundreds of light-emitting units, each unit contains RGB total of 4 LED tubes, of which In order to increase the brightness of the green, two light-emitting tubes are integrated, and finally pure white is obtained by mixing the three primary colors of RGB. This technology is more pure and brighter than ordinary white LEDs, which can significantly increase the NTSC color gamut of the display. The liquid crystal display using this backlight system can completely compete with the CRT in color reproduction.
The reporter asked when the display could be officially put on the market. The BOE staff said that there is no such plan at present because the LED backlight cost is high and the mass production technology needs to be further improved. In addition, at present, the LED backlight has a large heat generation, and the heat dissipation problem needs to be further solved.
The liquid crystal display is a transmissive display device, and a powerful light source is required to properly display the image inside. The conventional liquid crystal display uses a CCFL cold light source as a light-emitting device, and its disadvantage is that the white light is not pure enough, the light is uneven, the Volume is high, and the energy consumption is high. fragile. LED can basically overcome the shortcomings of CCFL, and it is small in size and long in service life, especially white light, which can greatly improve the color performance of the display.
The biggest obstacle to limiting the popularity of LEDs at present is the price. The same size LED light source is much more expensive than the traditional CCFL light source. Although there are still some shortcomings, the industry believes that LED is the future direction of liquid crystal display development, which is beyond doubt.
