Professor Deng Qingyun: After 5 to 10 years, OLED TV will fully replace LCD

Faced with the market's total decline, and the "Internet brands to join the color TV market price war intensified," the dilemma, the traditional manufacturers such as Skyworth hope to break through the new technology to promote color TV update to bring new markets. "The OLED TVs sold 20,000 units in fiscal year 2015 and 200,000 units in fiscal year 2016." On December 21st, Skyworth released its latest OLED TV market promotion target. As a firm advocate of OLED, Skyworth held its fourth conference since its participation in the OLED camp in 2013 on December 21st. It released a new OLED TV product S9 with HDR technology and "plus technology does not increase prices." According to another report, Skyworth will also release an S10 OLED TV with a thickness of only 1mm in September 2016.

Father of OLED Deng Qingyun

Professor Deng Qingyun, father of OLED, also appeared as Skyworth's "station platform." When interviewed by the Southern Metropolis Daily reporter, Professor Deng Qingyun said: "Once a day, O LE D will completely replace LC D TV." However, this process may be longer. "It may take 5 to 10 years."

Will OLED prices fall next year?

As the father of OLED, Professor Deng Qingyun has high hopes for the development of OLED TVs. "In the future, OLED TVs will definitely replace LCD TVs." He told reporters that his home is using two OLED TVs, one is Samsung and the other is LG.

However, Professor Deng Qingyun also frankly stated: The current development of OLED TV makes him "not satisfied." He said: "Today the mainstream TV market is still LCD. I was not satisfied until the day when OLED TVs completely replaced LCD TVs."

Prof. Deng Qingyun pointed out that LCD TVs (including LED TVs) have reached a bottleneck and need to use display technologies such as 4K, Quantum Dots, Local Dim, and other display technologies to improve clarity, brightness, color, etc., just like patches." No one is posted here. There is no OLED in it and it is perfect.

However, due to the problem of high prices, OLEDs have still not been widely available.

Liu Weizhi, president of Skyworth Group's color TV division, revealed that at present, users who purchase OLED are all high-end users who have the ultimate pursuit of TV color. However, he also emphasized that O LED is not a “luxury product” and will become a mass consumer product in the future. With the increase in the yield of OLED panels, the OLED TV market will increase in size, and the price of OLED TVs will certainly decline next year.

Hisense renamed or will fully promote

Professor Deng Qingyun also emphasized that the next two years will be the key period for OLED development. One of the factors that most influence the promotion speed of OLED TVs is “industry participation” and calls for more people to invest in this industry.

Earlier (September 16, 2015), led by the China Electronics Industry Association, LG D isplay (hereinafter referred to as "LG D") has teamed up with nearly 30 companies such as LG Electronics, Skyworth, Konka, Changhong, Haier, Suning and Gome. Upstream and downstream industrial chain and research institutions of the color TV industry have jointly established the China OLED display industry alliance to accelerate the popularity of OLED TVs. However, TCL and Hisense, both of the first echelon of Chinese traditional color TV brands, are absent from the Chinese OLED display industry alliance. This impact on the promotion of OLED television can be described as pivotal.

Prior to this, TCL and Hisense believed that OLED TVs would not become mainstream in five years. Both of them launched quantum dot TVs and U LED TVs to extend the "lifespan" of LCD TVs in the market, and to obtain time for themselves. Huaxing Optoelectronics, a subsidiary of the TCL Group, is investing in research and development of print display technology to increase the cost-effectiveness of OLED TVs. Hisense invested in research and development of laser television in an attempt to synchronize the development of a fourth-generation laser television with an OLED television representing the third generation.

To this end, Yang Xiaojun unilaterally "about frame" Hisense "in the OLED new product conference in August this year as a witness, the next three years, friends do not do OLED, I lose him 30,000."

Hisense’s recent position shows that its expectation for the maturity of the OLED market has been shortened. Zhou Shengjian, former chairman of Hisense Group, said in an interview with the media: "If the O LE D becomes mainstream after 10 or 20 years, Hisense will not refuse it." But the recent president of Hisense Group Liu Hongxin expressed his position, perhaps three to five years later, As long as the time is ripe and consumers like it, Hisense will push OLED with all its strength.

Based on various favorable conditions, Skyworth is confident in the development of OLED.

Liu Weizhi, president of Skyworth Group's color TV division, revealed that Skyworth’s OLED TV sales target for FY2015 was reduced from 30,000 to 20,000 due to panel supply, but in FY2016, it would have to be increased tenfold to reach 200,000.
