Altera and TRS-STAR GmbH have released the PARIS development platform, the industry's first fully renewable automotive market infotainment platform. TRS-STAR's PARIS platform uses Altera® Stratix® II FPGAs for the next generation of automotive infotainment and telematics automotive multimedia systems. The PARIS platform supports CAN, MOST, USB, Ethernet and SDHC interfaces. Its updateable automotive image system features multiple video inputs and video outputs, as well as an audio processing module and application processor.Altera worked with 12 hardware and software intellectual property (IP) vendors to help develop this complete development system, which includes pre-configured boards with Altera Stratix II FPGAs, WVGA TFT touch screens, reference designs, software stacks and drivers. Cables, power supplies, and documentation resources such as CDs. It also provides a library of demo designs and IP capabilities that designers can use to highlight the benefits of infotainment products and enable them to adapt quickly to changing market demands. The platform has been designed to facilitate future IP integration and facilitate the rapid and efficient development of infotainment applications. Moreover, the renewable architecture of the PARIS platform saves 50% in development time and system cost.
The PARIS platform is also able to further reduce costs through Altera's low-cost, high-performance HardCopy® II structured ASICs, making it an ideal development platform for high-volume products for multi-purpose infotainment applications. For less-function infotainment systems, designers can move to Altera's low-cost, low-power Cyclone® II and Cyclone III FPGAs for cost-sensitive, high-volume applications.
According to market research firm iSuppli, the automotive infotainment market will exceed $50 billion by 2012. According to Richard Robinson, principal analyst of automotive electronics at iSuppli, "The annual compound growth rate (CAGR) of automotive products is stable at around 3%, while the automotive infotainment sector is growing much faster. For the automotive infotainment market that has not yet been fully developed. We forecast a CAGR of 8% from 2006 to 2013."
The PARIS development platform is supplied by TRS-STAR and is currently being tested by some major customers. TRS-STAR expects to begin shipping the development platform in the first quarter of 2008.
